So the team is made up of Mum and Dad (Neil and Heather), our two daughters and our two sons. What has amazed me since starting our business a couple of years ago is that we all have different skills to offer and what great synergy we create together. It’s certainly been a steep learning curve, but we’ve learnt together, supporting each other along the way.
We are a very active family, and spend lots of time outdoors. It was this love of camping, walking, outdoor swimming, playing football, skiing etc., that led us to consider designing and sourcing some multi-purpose changing robes. We wanted a premium quality robe which you can change in but which also look good to wear on a really cold day on the beach, stood on the sidelines at a football match or sitting around the campfire on a cool summer’s evening.
It was during the family brainstorming process to decide exactly what features we wanted in a changing garment that the Jalapeño robe was born. Why Jalapeño? Well, we were sitting in our conservatory and next to me was my Jalapeño plant that my daughter had bought me a few years ago. I’d looked after it and overwintered it for several years, and it kept flourishing every year, producing the most gorgeous Jalapeño peppers.
We had already decided that we wanted a brand name that could be recognised from just a single image, such as Nike with its tick, so Jalapeño seemed to fit the bill, especially when we realised that we could incorporate the shape of a red pepper into the logo. We had great fun designing the brand name and we are really pleased with how it looks. We get lots of compliments about our style and branding.
That was probably the easy bit….. from then on our family members got to work sourcing robes, building a website registering the trademark, and all the other bits and pieces that go with starting a company. We have done everything ourselves, by pooling our individual skills to create the whole. Since the initial design and productions of the Jalapeño robe we have added to our Warmwear range.
